Dislocated Workers
The Dislocated Worker program, like all Connectinc programs, is administered with four goals in mind: reemployment, career building, job retention, and asset accumulation. The NC ESC and the state workforce development boards provide us with contact information for TAA-eligible customers. We provide them with social support, information, and referral to maintain their compliance with the 2002 Trade Adjustment Act. Benefits ensured by the TAA include: income support, job support and training allowances, relocation assistance, tax credit for health insurance cost (HCTC), and transportation subsidies.
Connectinc's technology enables the dislocated worker representatives to promote awareness of benefits, identify skill needs and gaps, facilitate enrollment into training opportunities that meet the identified needs, and connect customers with suitable jobs for which they can be helped to prepare and qualify. We work closely with local ESC/Joblink offices to provide the services our customers need without duplicating what is already available. Our objectives are to reduce the number of people who return to cash assistance, support the sustainability and growth of the communities in which we work, help prepare the workforce of the state for the transitioning economy, and improve the opportunities and futures of North Carolina’s working poor families.
